Why not a 100% Merino wool blanket?

Even though merino is the gold standard for a heavy wool blanket, when it comes to outdoors it needs some support. Our dual polymer fiber blends makes our wool camping blankets more abrasion and tear resistant, helps prevent the wool from felting, and helps it dry faster. We can’t make the outdoors easy, but our thick wool blanket can make it warm.

Merino Wool Throw Blanket

80% vs 50%

Our full size wool blankets are both designed to keep you warm, just in different contexts. Are you more on the colder-climate extreme side? Then 80% is for you. Perfect for hunting or camping, our 80% wool blankets for winter keep you insulated, while still being comfortable. Prefer van life or backyard fire pits? Then our 50% soft wool blanket is lighter weight, faster-drying and ideal for milder temperatures. Whatever gets you outside, we have a large wool blanket to help get you there.

Why merino over alpaca and lambswool?

Our thick wool blanket is made from warm and soft 80% recycled Merino Wool. Compared to lamb and alpaca wool blankets, merino is more durable and moisture wicking, making it strong enough to handle rough terrains and camping trips, even in the rain.

What temperature range does it work for?

Perfect for fall, winter and spring, the woolly mammoth wool blanket can handle temperatures as low as 50-60°F. Whether your bushcrafting, overlanding or just out on the patio, our wool couch blanket will keep you warm and dry.

Does it have a strong smell?

Our wool chair blankets will have a lanolin scent when it first arrives. This is natural and normal for higher percentages of wool, but this will fade from your merino wool blanket throw once aired out.

How do I care for it without dry cleaning?

Stain-resistant and self-cleaning against smells, our wool chair blankets are low maintenance. To wash: hand wash with cold water and wool detergent and lay out to air dry away from the sun. Don’t have wool detergent? Mild detergents also work!

Will it shrink or shed?

A little shedding can be expected when first opened. However, our wool throw blankets for couches are pressed and blow dried to reduce shedding long term. When washed as directed, our blankets shouldn’t shrink due to the elasticity of merino wool.

Woolly Mammoth Warmth: Experience the reliable warmth of our Merino Wool Blanket, designed for winter camping and outdoor adventures. Our warm blankets for winter are perfect for cold weather camping and emergency kits
Durable Outdoor Gear: Made from 80% recycled merino wool and reinforced with dual polymer fibers, our heavy blanket withstands tough conditions. The dirt-hiding twill weave gives you the toughness of an army blanket, making it a reliable military blanket style choice for the outdoors
Soft Yet Tough: Our blanket’s tightly spun fibers and milled finish create a soft feel while maintaining durability. It naturally traps warm air, keeping you insulated without extra bulk, perfect for a motorcycle blanket roll or survival gear
Moisture and Stain Resistance: This wool blanket absorbs moisture up to 30% of its weight without feeling wet, making it a reliable choice for outdoor blankets. Its stain-resistant nature supports use in various outdoor settings and camping
Versatile Size and Design: With dimensions of 66″ x 90″ and a weight of 4.3 lbs, our blanket offers generous coverage for camping essentials and car blankets. The reinforced stitching ensures longevity, making it a staple among cold weather camping blankets

    Just what I wanted
Bought a few of these to equip our vehicles with emergency blankets. I did a little research between this blanket and another, perhaps more popular, low-cost wool blanket that is very popular here on Amazon. I ultimately chose this one because these blankets are basically felted whereas the other kind was not, which means that these blankets will be better at blocking wind if needed, and may be warmer overall, as well. In fact I compared this blanket with several others in the same price range and felt that this one was the best. I find the merino wool to be very soft and smooth (for a cheap wool blanket… it is still rougher than some other non-wool materials). Unlike many other similar wool blankets, these blankets really are not itchy, which is really nice. I expect you could comfortably have this blanket against your skin, whereas my other simple military-style wool blankets are a bit itchy and really are better used on top of another blanket. Because of the felted texture I expect low shedding, which can be a problem for some wool blankets. Also, there is a faint but distinct smell to them. I don’t know if I’d describe it as a chemical smell, but it’s not exactly the sweet lanolin smell that naturally accompanies wool either. We are an all-natural household and I have pretty low tolerance for any chemical smells around me (scented laundry detergent, perfume, cigarettes, gasoline, etc., are all intolerable), and the smell on these blankets doesn’t bother me, even though I wouldn’t describe it as pleasant. But, it’s pretty easy to ignore and I think that it will dissipate with time. The weight is very good… nice and heavy like a wool blanket should be, and it looks very durable. I have a couple of other wool blankets, including one military issue, that aren’t felted, and therefore have a fuzzier surface. I have really abused my military blanket and it is still holding up great, but based on the feel of these new blankets I expect these Wooly Mammoth blankets to be even more durable due to the dense felted weave. The dense felted weave also creates a very smooth surface that seems less likely to pick everything up like the standard military issue wool blankets can do.I’m going to try using one soon to see if they really will perform like I expect. If I am dissatisfied I will add to this review, but as of now I expect them to be at least as warm as my military issue, which is pretty awesome. Like other similar wool blankets, it is relatively thin (if you aren’t used to this it might shock you), but don’t let that discourage you… these kinds of wool blankets don’t need to be very thick to work great, which is why they are so commonly used in military issue. They provide a surprising lot of warmth with minimal bulk. They work. Generally you can throw one of this type of wool blanket over the top of your normal blanket on a cold night when your normal blanket isn’t adequate and it immediately makes a huge difference, so I always keep one at the foot of the bed of each of my family members. I haven’t had an opportunity to try these out yet, but based on the look and feel I expect them to perform on par with the others warmth-wise, or perhaps better. Again, I’ll add to this review if they don’t live up to my expectations. So, based on my initial examination and observations, I highly recommend and believe that this is a great quality product for the price.

Great WOOL blanket, which means it needs to be taken care of like a WOOL BLANKET.
After seeing some of the negative reviews I feel I should make two quick notes. One: DO NOT WASH THIS BLANKET IN THE WASHING MACHINE! If you don’t know how to care for a wool blanket, don’t get mad and leave a sour review when you ruin it. Take 5 minutes and hit up their website and read up on the care. Washing will cause it for shrink and shed. Spot wash as much as you can. Two: Yes, it smells. It smells just like a wool blanket. When they’re new, that smell is always stronger. As you air the blanket out it will be less pungent, but it’s always there. I used them growing up so I’m used to it, but some people are very sensitive to it to where it smells like some type of fuel. If you notice it but it doesn’t make you gag, let it air out by just spreading it out outside on a dry day, or even in your garage where you can open the door, and it will freshen the wool. I’ve heard of people also rubbing dryer sheets on it after airing it out and it will smell like a newly dried blanket for a long time. But, It just smells like a wool blanket, so you might want to go sniff a real wool blanket and see if you like the smell before buying a more expensive one like this.Overall: Just a great wool blanket. It’s softer than some, not as soft as others. Still great and will get used a lot this hunting season. My favorite feature is the stitching around the edge. It’s about 1/2-1” thick and is super sturdy. The overall quality is definitely 10/10, worth the asking price. If they’re out of stock here, you can find them at the Wolly Mammoth website. It’s where I got mine when amazon couldn’t deliver. Same price for me at the time too. Worth every penny.Softness: 7/10 – it’s wool, not necessarily designed for softness in my experience.Warmth 10/10 – this with my swagman roll makes this dad all toasty and warm.Comfort 9/10 – it’s a super nice wool blanket of very high quality, but do consider its weight. Wool blankets are heavy in general, and this XL one keeps the tradition going. I may buy the smaller one for camping and keep this one in my FJ.

    Great quality!
Not ideal for dog hair, especially since it’s dry-clean only, but a quick lint roll every other day works. It’s not itchy and feels fine against the skin—my Jack Russell loves it. It’s thinner than a true military blanket but still adds great warmth over a lightweight comforter. I’ve already bought two more in lighter colors. Would recommend.

    Well built product.
Awesome blanket. Other mention the smell. I can see how someone might not like it, but it’s just what wool smells like because of the oil used on it. Smells like a blanket that you would find in a log cabin in my opinion. I’d have a whole stack of them if I had room for them. It would also be great product to take car camping. Super durable and super warm. Very thick and heavy duty!

    4.6/5
This blanket is incredibly dense and warm. I used it for camping in 20-degree weather, and it kept me cozy. I was a bit disappointed to see the tag only mentioned 80% wool, not specifically merino wool. However, I believe it is merino wool. It has a slight itch, but it’s not nearly as much as regular wool. It’s a good size, fitting a twin bed. Overall, it’s a great blanket.

  6. Client Amazon

Klare Kaufempfehlung!
