But for optimum performance, the filter elements should be replaced every 12 months. NOTE: The filter element DOES NOT lower the TDS value.

$60 filter that smells like garbage/pesticide/organics. Truly.Berkey filters never smelled like garbage. Still, I primed the filters and after rinsing the offensive odor is less so. Does not fit a Berkey fluoride filter. I guess compatible with Berkey means it fits a Berkey container. They should specify in the description that the compatibility is limited to fitting the container and that you will need the Phoenix flouride filter if you wish to add that filter. Flow is much faster than a Berkey filter. As I ordered, primed, and installed them, I’m giving these filters a week to see if they need a settle in period and improve. I will be returning if they don’t improve and NOT drinking the water produced during this time. So I’m wasting time and water through giving them a try.Thus far, I’m very unimpressed and would recommend others choose a different filter if looking for a Berkey replacement.

A perfect filter replacement for our Berkey.
We got these to replace the filters on our Berkey, which still seemed to be working well, but are getting older. These filters fit perfectly! They come with two washers for each filter, plus a wing nut for each. The Berkey only has one washer, but I think having two gives the filter more stability.These Phoenix filters are also sold on the Berkey site, as a recommended more affordable replacement.We had no trouble installing them following the simple instructions.One thing to be aware of, is that we have mesh filters on the end of our faucets, so getting the filters charged are a little more complicated. We happened to have kept a thick beige washer from Berkey that fits on top of the filter and formed something of a seal between our bathroom faucet and the filter. Then the filter charged easily.We followed the instructions, and threw out the first two containers of filtered water. We have been drinking the water since then, and it tastes nice and clean just like with the Berkey filters.We can recommend these filters.

These are functional, high quality, well made, NSF certified carbon replacement filters. I’m sure you can find these cheaper, but they won’t compare in quality. They’re easy to change. They greatly improve the quality and the taste of the water. I think they’re an excellent value.

Too smelly to keep
I had to give it one star to post this review. The filters arrived and the box smelled like vomit. I let the box sit for a few weeks and it still smelled. I opened it up and lifted out a filter still in the plastic cover and it too smelled like vomit. I returned them. I hope my box was unique and that is not what is being shipped from Chennai, India. I hope the problem can be remedied.
