As described, good value, fine particle size
As described, a good value, yet the particles are too small for my application. Should work fine for water. I needed granules (my error)

    Highly recommend
This is great for long wilderness trips, it’s multifunctional. You can filter still, river, lake, and stream water let it dry a couple days and it can be used to help fuel your fire to boil water and cook.

    unusable condition
Item was “used up” by adsorption from the atmosphere prior to arrival. The only use for it is either to “reactivate it” by driving off adsorbed materials (generally by heating) or using it as fuel (burn it as charcoal). The comment I’m about to make is admittedly beyond what is “reasonable” to expect from a retailer of this sort of product. Nevertheless, the listing mentions the “absorption” capability of the product – which is not correct. Activated charcoal works though a mechanism called “adsorption” similar to absorption but different in important ways. When a material is absorbed into another material it is drawn into the bulk – the entire volume – of the material it is absorbed into. When a material is adsorbed the material that is adsorbed adheres to the surface of the material that adsorbs it. What makes “activated” charcoal different from charcoal that you would get from burning wood or use in your grill is that activated charcoal has been processed in a way that increases the available surface area by creating many small passages and holes throughout the charcoal, which allows far more access to, opportunity to, and capacity for material to bind to the surface of the charcoal. This seemingly minor discrepancy in the listing’s description suggests that the manufacturer may not know what is and is not important about the product they are selling, or how to keep/store/maintain/handle the product in a condition that is required for the product to be functional when the end user is ready to use it.

    Big quantity
I don’t know if it works or not but they are smaller bits and go through my filter screen more than I like.
